Beast Master Guide

Beast Masters are a brand new class. Characters with a Beast stat of 10 or greater are Beast Masters, who can tame the many monsters of BM, and then control them. They may not learn dodge, but use their own special skills and weapons.

They start with a free Wooden Golem. Should they or their pet die, they may relog to get a fresh monster.

How do Beast Masters work?

Beastmasters have a pet monster that follows them around, and intercepts all attacks for them. Running squares fast can lead to the occasional hit from a wild monster so be careful. Such monsters can have much greater health than you. Isn't that neat? The attack command directs their monster to attack. This is a monster clicked choice. If you click on yourself you can Send Out your monster, and make it leave your square,This will make the camera focus on the monster. other monsters will not attack until you attack them in this mode. Camps are special and the monster will agro them like a normal player would, When you send out, you are then vulnerable to anything that wanders into your square. You may click your own monster to Recall it as well. This class will be born with a scythe of 5 golds and some charges.

Smiths must craft Greatswords with Gold Dust, and Mages must make Taming Staffs for them. The Smith then uses Scythe Expertise to craft the two together into a Taming Scythe. You then may equip it and use the “Tame Monster” click command on a monster in your square attacking you or another monster to attempt to tame it. Four swings will do it, if you can tame it. If you can't, the game will tell you why.

Pet Taming

Not only do you need a Taming Scythe with 1 added Gold per monsters tamed, you need the Taming skill which you may buy as a Beast Master. To increase it, you simply tame the next listed below monster. You also have access to Pet Mastery and Pet Energy skills. The list follows, for those who wish to get the monster they want quickly.

Experience

The Taming skill works very differently from all others. it contains the type and subtype of the highest monster on this list you tamed. If you use /freepet, you will get back one based on this skill.

The Taming pets are stored as items in your inventory. each pet is stored as you train. When you tame a new pet, the current pet is stored. You can have one of each type, and if you get a second, the better one is kept. You may stable and let out pets while in town. The /stablepet command puts your current pet away, and the “Let out” option on the item lets it out.

Pet Mastery goes up 1 point each time your pet gets hit. Unlike most Mastery skills, this one does give CLVLs, at one per.

Pet Energy is sorta like dodging, but for your pet. When your pet gets hit, the exp goes up by 10 or the amount of damage taken, whichever is smaller. If your pet's natural defense is higher, then the pet uses it instead (say you got yourself a Vorpal Bunny, it will use it's own defense of 400, which is probably much higher than your Pet Energy). When a pet uses it's own defense, you can level up Pet Energy just like you would dodge until it's caught up to your current pet's defense.

Your pet can also increase it's stats if it gets the killing blow on a monster with a to hit greater than its defense. Check your pet's stats with /petstats.

You can feed your pet dusts to change it's color and transparency with /feeddust and meats to change it's size with /feedmeat. Salted meat always shrinks your pet. Fresh will grow most pets.

Should your pet keep killing what you are trying to tame, you can get free it with /freepet. Relogging after this will get you the highest pet from the above list that you tamed back, without you needing to go tame it again.

Pet Damage

Your pet deals damage equal to it's damage stat, multiplied by a random number from 1.0 to 2.0, same as any monster in the game. Pet Mastery adds extra damage equal to pet mastery level multiplied by beast stat.

Scythe Charges

When crafted, a Taming Scythe will have charges equal to twice the total on the Taming Staffs used to make it, and they show in the Age section. Charges go down with each swing on a monster you can actually tame. If you see an error message, you won't lose a charge. If you see no error, but are still not taming, then your scythe is out of charges. It should be dismantled by a good Smith, who will be able to recover the entire Greatsword for you if she gets 15x complexity. You can then use the Greatsword in a replacement Scythe.
